I. In accordance with Transworld Institute of Technology's policy to promote internationalization, we encourage excellent foreign students to become Transworld students to contribute to the school's education, and teach other talented people. We do so according to Taiwan's Ministry of Education's regulation that requires an “international students' scholarship.” Transworld has also established its own regulations governing the “Transworld International Scholarship.”
II. An “International student” is not an overseas Chinese student, nor any person with Republic of China (Taiwan) Citizenship.
III. The maximum length of time a student can receive the scholarship is four academic years for students in undergraduate programs, and two academic years for students in master's programs.
IV. Conditions for applying: (I) New international students at Transworld Institute of Technology (overseas Chinese students may not apply). (II) Already enrolled international students (overseas Chinese students and students who have exceeded the maximum length of time for the scholarship award may not apply). 1. Undergraduate students who have already completed at least two semesters with a minimum credits each semester and a combined grade point average of all accomplished years at Transworld of at least 70, and have not received a written reprimand or more severe penalty from Transworld as a result of misconduct. 2. Graduate students who have already completed at least two semesters with no fewer than 4 credits each semester with a combined grade point average of all accomplished years at Transworld of at least 75, and have not received a written reprimand or more severe penalty from Transworld as a result of misconduct. For graduate students who are writing their theses and did not take courses in the previous semester a letter of recommendation by their advisors along with a thesis proposal is required. (The thesis proposal must include research motives and objectives, methodology and research design, data sources, thesis outline, and references.) Students must not have received a written reprimand or more severe penalty from Transworld as a result of misconduct. This way of applying for the scholarship may only be used once for any international student. 3. All qualified international students who are recommended by their department's faculty and are economically disadvantage can offer documents to the committee with the application.
V. The number of scholarships awarded per year, and the scholarships' amount depends on the available money each school year (The available funds in each school year will come from the school, and may be supplemented with grants or other money from outside sources). If the money available is greater, there will be more scholarships awarded, and vice versa.
VI. Application Process: Students who wish to apply for the scholarship, must do so at the beginning of every school year no later than one month after the start of classes. All documents should be submitted to the Center for International Affairs. (I) Prepare one copy of the application form. (II) New students must submit an official transcript from his or her school of highest education, including a statement of class rank from the time of graduation. (III) Prepare a photocopy of the applicant’s student identification card. (IV) Enrolled students must submit the latest academic records and must also include a statement of the student's moral evaluation from their school. (V) Two different letters of recommendation. (VI) Provide documentation of direct adverse effect from a natural disaster, if applicable. (VII) Provide information on other related studies and extracurricular activities.
VII. Examination Process: (I) The first academic year: There will be a selection committee which will be in charge of determining the amount of recipients and of the scholarships' amounts. (“International disaster students” will be awarded the scholarships before other recipients.) The committee will announce the recipients. The recipients will receive the scholarship money after they complete their class registrations. (II) After the second academic year: The committee will review the recipients' academic progress to assure that the recipients' work is satisfactory before the rest of the scholarship is awarded continuously.
VIII. This scholarship will only be awarded if the applicant has first applied for a Taiwan national scholarship and failed to receive one for reasons of ineligibility or for some other reasons; being awarded a Taiwan national scholarship will exclude him or her from eligibility from the scholarship discussed here. IX. Qualified students who graduate, drop out of school, leave school for one or more semesters, don't complete registration, are expelled, or the scholarship is revoked, the award will be terminated. Students while on leave from school are not eligible for the scholarship.
X. If there is any inaccuracy in the application process, or the existence of invalid or counterfeit checks received in payment of tuition or other school fees, the award of a scholarship will be revoked immediately.
XI. This regulation comes into effect up on the approval of the Transworld Scholarship Committee and the President of the University. Amendments to this regulation should follow the same procedure.
