OverviewTransworld Institute of Technology (TIT) is located in beautiful Yunlin County in west-central Taiwan. It is near Sun Moon Lake and Alishan Mountain, two popular destinations in Taiwan. Transworld Institute of Technology's motto is “Cherish honesty, Practice integrity” and is built on the four pillars of Wisdom, Innovation, Cooperation, and Competition. Wisdom: Knowledge that produces social values of innovation. The school was officially founded in 1992 as Transworld Junior College of Commerce, a commerce-based junior college. The school was officially upgraded to a four-year institute in 2000 and changed its name to Transworld Institute of Technology. TIT has grown rapidly in its short history from a total of 750 students and 7 academic departments during its first semester to more than 8,000 students and 15 departments today. Students at Transworld Institute of Technology study in one of the school's four colleges or two graduate programs. TIT currently offers associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees in the College of Business Administration, the College of Applied Science & Technology, the College of Design, the College of Humanities & Applied Life Science, the Graduate School of Environmental Resources Management, and the Graduate School of Strategic Management of Small & Medium Enterprise. The school is always working on developing into a diversified academy. Transworld Institute of Technology has two lovely campuses. The original campus, Hu-Shan, is located in the mountains. In 2000 TIT opened its new main campus, Chia-Tong, closer to Douliou, the largest city in the county. The campus was built after learning from famous universities in England, Japan, and the United States. The innovative campus was constructed incorporating some sculptural artistic design to enhance and reflect the universities uniqueness. Chia-Tong Campus has proudly been acclaimed a unique campus among the institutes of technology in Taiwan. The Bureau of Water Resources has stated that Transworld Institute of Technology has the best water saving program of any institute of technology. The school has the largest campus size among all private, technological universities in Taiwan. One of Transworld Institute of Technology's distinguished features is the development of the College of Design. The three departments (Visual Communication Design, Public Relations Design and Product Design) are interconnected. The Department of Product Design focuses on the design of fashionable, innovative, and cultural products. It is combined with the visual information design program offered by the Department of Visual Communication Design. The Department of Public Relations Design focuses on the promotion of the design based on communication, corporation and working on solidarity between departments. In 2006 the departments in the College of Design moved together into a new building. Transworld Institute of Technology is working on signing agreements with schools outside of Taiwan. In 1997 Transworld signed its first sister school agreement with Bournemouth University (England). This was followed up in 1999 with agreements with the University in Melbourne (Australia) and the University of Pittsburg (USA). In May 2007 the school signed an agreement with Patten University (USA). Transworld Institute of Technology is looking to the future. Currently the school is working on becoming a four-year technology university. Transworld Institute of Technology is committed to becoming an outstanding, creative and competitive university in central Taiwan. The school currently has tens of international students from south Asia. The school is actively recruiting both undergraduate and graduate foreign students. International students may apply for scholarships to study at TIT. The scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and progress.
